Some Background Information

My vivid dream evaporated almost as soon as I woke, but the emotion stayed and, as a result, I was inspired 45 years ago to become a photographer and illustrator, with a vision that is both poetic and powerful at the same time.

My early art education was augmented by a brief time working in a New York studio, and it handed me a rare opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the world's most celebrated artists and photographers.

I started painting in earnest in 1990 and I've used my background in photography to boost my understanding of light, color and gesture.

Never one to chase fame or fortune, my work has quietly accumulated art directors' awards and stunned some of the best photographers and editors who have remarked:

"We haven't even begun to glimpse the real depth of Jed's talent."
Sally Mann, Artist/Photographer

"Some of the strongest color work I've seen."
Jay Maisel, Artist/Photographer

"Your pictures are almost too perfect!"
Robert Pledge, Contact Press Images

Last year, I started writing a series of books called The Gold of Ophir, five historical novels that span the known history of the Indian subcontinent. The first book will be finished this year. My working title is The Bead Traders.

My client list includes small and large corporations, advertising agencies, and magazines; I get by comfortably in several foreign languages; but even more important, I'm a husband, proud father, and "Grampy" to 25 grandchildren!
